Knight of Cups Tarot

Patricia Lantz C.Ht.
tarot cards

Tarot scholars liken this Knight to Perceval in the Grail legends. He's a daring, handsome, and romantic young man, sometimes naive but full of love, dreams, and bright ideas. When he shows up in a reading, he brings you a message of joy and signifies moving forward in a way that's beneficial to your overall happiness. He's often the bearer of good news and a change for the better and can also indicate a young man much like him is related to the inquiry.

Symbolism

In the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck, he's depicted riding on a white horse, wearing armor, and holding out a chalice. The horse represents energy and drive, and the color white is a symbol of purity, spirituality, and light. His armor symbolizes protection, and the chalice represents a message about matters of the heart.

This Knight wears a cloak covered with images of fish, and he's near a stream of flowing water, symbolizing the subconscious, emotions, healing, purification, perception, and the need to move and react according to intuitive instinct.

His helmet and feet are winged, a symbol of an active and creative imagination.

  • Positioned in the past, he often points to the abrupt ending of a relationship. This could be a romantic relationship, friendship, or business relationship, and this failed relationship is likely the foundation of your current situation, so it's essential you understand how the loss of this relationship is affecting your current life.
  • Positioned in the present he's pushing you towards your passions, and the message he brings is to consider the positive aspect of your life and explore avenues that will better your future.
  • Positioned in the future, he indicates a coming passion. This could be a new love or a new hobby that overtakes your whole life.

Some readers use the same spread all the time while others change spreads depending on the question. However, when this Knight turns up in any reading, the reader can be sure deep feelings are involved in whatever advice the querent is seeking.
