Moon Sign Calendar
From LoveToKnow Horoscopes
A moon sign calendar is an easy way to figure out when the Moon is in a specific sign. The Moon is the most rapidly moving planet in your horoscope, so keeping track of this speedy heavenly body can be a bit of a task. With a calendar, you can instantly know how the moon may be affecting your chart.
Finding a Moon Sign Calendar
The moon travels through the twelve signs in the zodiac at a pace of two to three days for each sign. The moon goes through the entire zodiac in about a month. Whenever the Moon is in a specific sign, your horoscope for those several days is affected by its position.
You can create your own moon sign calendar by using an ephemeris and writing in the dates of the moon’s sign changes on your own. If this doesn’t appeal to you, you can refer to one of the several moon calendars available online:
- Zodiac Arts – This site offers a clean looking calendar with the moon signs and phases clearly marked.
- Through Night’s Fire – This calendar has additional information about waxing and waning of the moon.
- MB Free Moon Sign – This is a free program download that will keep you up to date on the transits of the Moon.
Understanding the Transiting Moon Signs
Astrologically speaking, the moon deals with emotions, creativity, intuition and your needs. When the moon travels around the Zodiac, it interacts with the planets that are in your natal chart. For example, when the moon is in Aries, those with their sun in Aries will feel like they are starting a period of new beginnings. However, people with their sun in the other signs won’t have the same feeling.
In order to use a moon calendar to your advantage, you should know the location of all the major planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). It will also be very helpful to know your rising sign, also known as your Ascendant.
Once you have that information, you’ll be able to tell how the moon is affecting your chart and note it on your own calendar. The Moon has the most power over a planet when it is conjunct, or next to, that planet. Take special notice when the Moon enters a sign that houses one or several of your planets.
The transiting moon conjunct your sun is a very significant event. You should make a habit of noting when this happens each month and watch for its effect. Generally, you’ll feel a burst of new energy and see new opportunities open up around you. If you know what to expect, you can take advantage of this new time.
Another significant transit is the moon opposite a planet. When the moon is in Aries, it is opposite any planets that are in Libra. Here’s a quick guide to zodiac opposites:
- Aries is opposite Libra
- Taurus is opposite Scorpio
- Gemini is opposite Sagittarius
- Cancer is opposite Capricorn
- Leo is opposite Aquarius
- Virgo is opposite Pisces
Using this chart, you can see that when your Sun is in Pisces, your chart will be affected by the moon when the moon is in Virgo.
For complete interpretations of the transiting moon’s effect on your natal planets, see Café Astrology’s detailed moon transits page.
Void of Course Moon
In the online moon charts, you’ll see notations of the Moon going "void of course" (abbreviated VOC). Void of course is when the Moon has, from the Earth’s perspective, slowed down to enter the next sign. A VOC Moon is significant because it is traditionally not a good time to begin new projects. When you use a moon sign calendar, you can clearly see the VOC Moon patterns and plan accordingly.
Using all these details of a moon calendar will help you figure out what is going on in your emotional life.
