How Can I Figure Out What My Moon Sign Is

From LoveToKnow Horoscopes

Many people wonder "How can I figure out what my moon sign is?" The moon sign is an important part of your astrological make-up and it’s very insightful for understanding one's emotional nature. Read on to learn more.

How Can I Figure Out What My Moon Sign Is?

Most people have heard of sun signs, but each planet in the solar system travels through one zodiac sign at a time, with some going very slowly, and only changing signs every few years. The Moon travels much faster that these planets; every one to three days, the Moon switches signs.

In order to figure out the zodiac sign that the moon was in at your birth, you need an astrological tool called an ephemeris. An ephemeris is a table of charts that lets you know the zodiac sign of each planet on any given day. There are ephemeris tables for thousands of years in the past and a few hundred into the future.

Finding an Online Ephemeris

If you’re interested in learning astrology, you may want to invest in an ephemeris. You can find one in most major bookstores or by purchasing them online. The come in a range of dates from 1900 to 1950, 1950 to 2000, and 2000 to 2050.

If you just want to find out your moon sign, you can use an online ephemeris. These tables are easy to read if you know what to look for. The most reliable ephemeris online is located at Astrodienst.

This site offers 6,000 years of astrology files. Each year opens as a PDF file when you click on the date. Once the PDF opens, you’ll see a table of lots of numbers and symbols. In the first column is the Date and Day.

Finding Your Moon Sign

Along the top row, you’ll see a series of symbols or "glyphs" that represent each of the planets and some other important astrological bodies. Locate the moon column, which is fourth from the left side. The Moon glyph looks like a little half moon shape. In the first column is the day and date of that particular placement. Within the vertical column, you’ll see another set of glyphs that represent each of the zodiac signs.

Look for your birth date and then see which astrological glyph is in the row associated with it. If there is no glyph in your row, look above to the next line that has a glyph. This is the sign for your date as well. Moon signs take one to three days to go through a sign.

How to Use Your Moon Sign Information

The moon’s position when you were born is called your "natal" moon. Knowing your Moon sign will give you insight to your personality. Your Moon represents your emotional life and how you find comfort in life.

You can also use the ephemeris to study the effects of the "transiting" moon on your natal chart. Each month, the moon passes over your natal Sun, your natal moon and all the other planets. Look at the ephemeris for the coming month and find out when the transiting moon will have the same value as your natal sun or natal moon.

For example, if your natal Sun is at 17 degrees Aquarius (17 with the double squiggly lines next to it) you’ll look for the time during the month when the moon is closest to 17 degrees Aquarius. This time of the month represents a time of new beginnings for you that is relatively stress free. You can look forward to this burst of new beginnings and new attitude each and every month.

When the transiting Moon is aligned with your natal Moon, look for feeling of sensitivity and some inner turmoil. You’ll be emotionally charged during this time of the month and if you’re not careful, you could let it get to you.

By looking at an ephemeris each month, you’ll be able to tell when these sensitive transits are happening. Knowing this information can help you plan ahead for the future. With this tool, you’ll be able to answer the question "How can I figure out what my moon sign is?"
