Horoscope Junkie: What You Need to Know

Chances are, as a horoscope junkie, you probably have your natal chart done, check your daily transits, and sky watch with your fellow astrology buffs. In order to make deeper sense of your charts and daily transits, however, you need to have a solid astrological foundation. Here’s what you need to know!

The Houses

The houses of the zodiac are extremely important. Not only do they signal where you should focus your attention, but understanding the planets and applying aspects within those houses can boost the predictive astrological skills of the average horoscope junkie to an entirely new level!

  • The first house: The first house governs the personality others see, your overall physical well-being, and your physical characteristics.
  • The second house: Salary, your sense of self-worth and the “value” you place on time is covered by this house.
  • The third house: This house rules how you learn and process information, siblings, your neighborhood and neighbors. It also covers current writing projects.
  • The fourth house: The first “critical degree” of an astrological chart, the nurturing parent, house and home and how you spend the end of the day are all fourth house matters.
  • The fifth house: Matters of romance, speculative games (like gambling and playing the stock market), and pregnancy are all housed within the fifth.
  • The sixth house: Sixth house matters include your day to day activities, your job (but not career), co-workers and small pets.
  • The seventh house: The seventh house rules partnerships of all kinds, legal contracts, your first marriage and enemies that are known to you.
  • The eight house: Investments, taxes and money you share are housed here. Death, life-threatening illnesses, and sex are also a part of the eight house.
  • The ninth house: Long distance travel, higher education, your partner’s relatives and publishing are all ninth house matters.
  • The tenth house: The tenth house rules your career or chosen profession, your reputation and the interaction with those in a position of authority (including your boss). In ancient times, the father was also ruled by this house.
  • The eleventh house: The house of friends, social activities, and dearly held dreams are all within the domain of the eleventh house.
  • The twelfth house: The twelfth house rules the period before our birth, the unconscious and dreams. It also rules any type of institution, be it a hospital, prison or a nursing home.

The Aspects

Now that you know what each house means, let’s take a look at some of the aspects.

Conjunctions

The keywords for a conjunction are intensity and power. A conjunction is formed when two or more planets are within close proximity. The end result of this proximity is that the planets act as one. For example, if you have Sun conjunct Mars people will view you as highly energetic, a real go-getter!

Oppositions

Formed when two planets sit 180 degrees apart from each other, oppositions are all about awareness, objectivity and forced growth.

Square

Squares occur when two or more planets form a 90 degree angle. Squares represent a conflict of interest, but unlike oppositions, the conflict is expressed subjectively and internally.

Trine

Placed 120 degrees away from each other, trines provide a sense of an abundance of ease within a chart.

Sextile

Sextiles mean that two planets form a 60 degree angle. The sextile represents an area where a working cooperative effort can lead to productive growth.

Now What?

Ok, horoscope junkies, and yes that is an affectionate term, now you have several pieces of the astrological puzzle. So here’s what to do next:

  • If you haven’t done it already, have your astrological chart done. This will help you to see the major planetary aspects in your chart.
  • If you have your chart, take a look at your houses and major aspects.
  • In which area are your planets housed? Planets in the first house (like the moon or Uranus) tend to “color” the entire house. So running with this example, this individual is likely to be emotional, and unpredictable.
  • Are there any planets in your fifth house? This can give you a clue towards potential love interests. For example, Neptune in the fifth can lend a dreamy, slightly gauzy attitude towards romantic affairs. As such, you may be attracted to the writers, poets and artists of the world.
  • Finally, take a look at the major aspects in your chart. These aspects will color the way you see the world and the way others see you. For example, does your Mars trine Venus? If so, you’ll have no trouble capturing the attention of the opposite sex. On the other hand, Sun conjunct Saturn lends a mature and cautious approach towards matters of the heart.

Final Thoughts

The main factor any horoscope junkie should remember is that while the houses and applying aspects have a significant effect on the individual’s personality, the aspects do change. As such, your blueprint will stand, but your destiny is always taking shape!
