Chinese Zodiac Marriage Combinations
From LoveToKnow Horoscopes
Chinese zodiac marriage combinations are similar to Western astrological combinations. These combinations are a good starting place for determining if you have any astrological aspects in common.
Legends: Origin of the Chinese Zodiac
One legend states Buddha named the twelve animals in the zodiac while another claims it was a Chinese Emperor.
During his birthday party, the Chinese Emperor challenged his animal guests to a race. The prize would be awarded to only twelve of the animals. One animal would be assigned to each month in the year and would be selected according to how each placed in the race. The rat and cat were very close friends and agreed to start the race together the next morning. However, the rat didn’t wake his friend and sneaked off to the race without the cat. During the race course, the rat came to a river and tricked the ox into giving him a ride on the larger animal’s back. Before the ox could climb out of the river, the rat jumped to the bank and dashed off to the palace where he was declared the winner of first place. The cat woke up after the race was over and ever since has been after the rat in a rage of vengeance.
Compatible and Incompatible Signs
In modern interpretation of Chinese Zodiac compatibility combinations, you’ll find that compatibility charts typically match the signs either by groupings of twos or threes with one group being compatible and the other incompatible. While this makes for very easy understanding and is a great way to approach Chinese astrology and compatibility, there is another way to designate the signs that are compatible. Many of the non-paired signs fall into various levels of compatibility.
Chart: Chinese Zodiac Compatibility
Below is a chart based on the ancient division of compatibility which is divided into four distinct categories. You’ll notice some categories have only one match while others may have several matches for a single category. The Most Compatible Sign: Pig
You’ll notice that out of all of the signs, the Pig seems to be most compatible with the most signs. This is because the pig tends to be a very generous sign, sometimes to a fault. The pig is also loyal and very accepting of others and life in general, making the person born under this sign someone who can easily get along with most people. There is no competitiveness in the pig and the ego has little control over the pig’s heart. This lack of aggressiveness however can turn the pig into a doormat if matched with the wrong sign. There’s also a tendency to being rather naive and vulnerable to those who would take advantage of the pig’s good nature.

Hi FireDragon,
I don't believe that any signs are natural enemies. It's just that the characteristics of some signs do not naturally mesh well with each other. However, any two people can get along if they are considerate of each other's feelings and needs, and this can be the case with a fire dragon and a water dog just as much as with any other sign and element combination. You're good friends now because you obviously treat each other well. There's no reason anything has to change unless one of you suddenly begins to take the other person for granted. The power to continue with this friendship lies with the two of you. Good luck. :)
-- Contributed by: Kelly Roperi am fire dragon and good friends with water dog whereas generally it is said dragons and dogs are enemies. why would that be the case? is there more to it than just the signs? how can i know if we will be good in the long run?
