About Chinese Astrology Family Compatibility
If you take a look at a Chinese zodiac chart you will notice that each Chinese zodiac sign is influenced by certain elements, including earth, fire, wood, water and metal. These elements, along with your Chinese zodiac sign, contribute to your personality characteristics and play a determining factor in how compatible you are with you other family members.
When exploring your Chinese astrology family compatibility, you must discover the astrological nature of your relationship with each of your relatives. Here's the breakdown on which element(s) dominate the various signs. You'll notice that Ox, Dragon and Rat cross over in two elements. This means these signs can display characteristics from either or both elements!
- Earth
- Dragon
- Rat
- Ox
- Wood
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Metal
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Fire
- Snake
- Horse
- Sheep
- Water
- Pig
- Rat
- Ox
Knowing which element dominates each family member's Chinese zodiac sign will help you determine whether your relationship with each person is an Affinity or Enmity relationship. From this point, you can really begin to understand the strengths and weaknesses in each relationship and learn where to focus your energies to keep things running smoothly.
Affinity Family Relationships
In Chinese astrology, there are two dominant types of relationships: Affinity and Enmity. Affinity relationships are naturally harmonious and mutually beneficial because the elements belonging to each person in the relationship work to support and help one another.
Whether the family relationship is between spouses, a parent and child, a grandparent and grandchild or siblings, the following combinations should result in Affinity relationships.
Water and Wood
In nature, water feeds and nurtures wood, allowing it to blossom and grow. The wood dominated signs of Tiger, Rabbit and Dragon and the water dominated signs of Pig, Rat and Ox are innate Affinity relationships.
Wood and Fire
In order to create heat and warmth, wood and fire are mutually dependent upon one another. Having a combination of the wood dominated signs of Tiger, Rabbit and Dragon and the fire dominated elements of Snake, Horse and Sheep in your family is a supportive and beneficial Affinity relationship.
Earth and Fire
The nutrient rich ash of a fire feeds the earth and soil, cultivating rapid vegetative growth. Earth element signs of Dragon, Rat and Ox and the fire signs of Snake, Horse and Sheep work well together in family relationships.
Earth and Metal
The Earth creates natural metals such as iron ore and gold. The combination of the Earth dominated signs of Dragon, Rat and Ox and the metal dominated elements of Monkey, Rooster and Dog results in a mutually beneficial Affinity family relationship.
Metal and Water
Metal acts as a vessel in which to hold and transport water. In a family, the metal dominated signs of Monkey, Rooster and Dog get along well with the water dominated signs of Pig, Rat and Ox.
Enmity Family Relationships
Just as there are natural Affinity relationships, there are natural also Enmity relationships found in Chinese astrology.
Water and Fire
Water works to extinquish and eliminate fire, making the relationships difficult between water dominated signs of Pig, Rat and Ox and fire dominated signs of Snake, Horse and Sheep.
Wood and Earth
Wood, such as the trunks of large trees, breaks the earth and earth buries wood. This can lead to difficulty between wood family members Tiger, Rabbit and Dragon and earth dominated family members Dragon, Rat and Ox.
Fire and Metal
Fire works to melt down metal and metal may be too strong to melt before the fire goes out. Fire dominated signs of Snake, Horse and Sheep may not get along with metal dominated Rooster, Dog and Monkey family members.
Earth and Water
Water can flood land, destroying everything in its path and earth absorbs water, causing drought. The water signs of Pig, Rat and Ox will have to work hard to get along with earth signs of Dragon, Rat and Ox.
Metal and Wood
Metal cuts and destroys wood, while wood dulls the metal blade that is cutting it. It may be a challenge for metal sign family members Dog, Rooster and Monkey to get along with the wood signs of Rabbit, Tiger and Dragon.
Finding Familial Harmony
Persuading all of the members of your household to get along may not be possible. However, understanding the interactions between your family's Chinese astrological signs and dominating elements should help you navigate strained or difficult relationships with greater care.
No matter which signs or elements are involved, you can improve all of your family relationships if each of you are willing to put in a little work. Keep the lines of communication open, and remember that demonstrating compassion and empathy will increase peace and harmony in your home.

Hi Ezon,
According to the Chinese Zodiac, you are a Dragon, and your partner is a Tiger. This pairing usually generates strong mutual attraction, but you'll need to overcome a major obstacle. Dragons tend to want to control things while Tigers prize their freedom. This means both of you will need to keep the other partner's needs in mind to maintain compatibility. A relationship based on true affection, trust and mutual respect is the best way to keep a Dragon and Tiger pairing on course. You can say that of any relationship really, but it is essential when pairing these two signs. Good luck!

This combination has a chance of working out well. Remember, astrology signs only temper our personalities. Our environment has a lot to do with the values we acquire. If your cousins stress family as more important than money, I'm sure that little ox will grow up to be a family-oriented adult.
Thanks for your question.
