Blue Dragon in Chinese Astrology

From LoveToKnow Horoscopes

What exactly are we talking about when we speak of the blue dragon in Chinese Astrology? Let us fill you in on this particular kind of dragon's attributes and personality. It really is a fascinating sign.

Dragons in General

Free Spirited

Of all the signs found in Chinese astrology, the Dragon is a larger than life character. Incredibly free spirited, Dragons have a hard time playing by the rules because they simply don't believe they were created for them. The feisty dragon would rather set his own course, but this doesn't necessarily make him an outlaw. In fact, people born under this sign are well known for a drive and ambition that often takes them to the top of their chosen careers.

Extroverts by nature, you can compare Chinese dragons with the western zodiac signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, although true dragons refuse to compare themselves with anyone!

Creative

Dragons are known for their sparks, and no where is this more evident than in their creativity. Give a dragon a problem to solve and you're sure to receive an innovative solution. This creativity also extends itself to the arts. Dragons love to be the center of attention, so taking the stage or having their art admired in a gallery showing really puts them in their element.

Generous

Lest we have you thinking that dragons might be vain and unruly creatures, let's talk about one of their finest points; their generous natures. Dragons can't stand to see someone in need go without, and love to come to their rescue. They believe in sharing their own good fortune with their friends and loved ones.

Self-Reliant

On th flip side of the coin, dragons find it very difficult to accept a helping hand from anyone else, even on the rare occasions when they may need one. This sign is fiercely independent, and while quite a social animal, he does cherish the opportunity to crawl into his cave and tend to himself on his own. Dragons love people, they are just determined to believe they don't need them.

About the Blue Dragon in Chinese Astrology

So, now that we have the dragon personality in a nutshell, what do we mean when we talk about the blue dragon in Chinese astrology?

Element: Water

In Chinese astrology, the color blue is associated with the element of water. Each of the five elements, including metal, earth, water and fire temper any sign's characteristics and add further dimension to their basic personalities. Water is associated with communication skills, and contributes a certain level of sensitivity and perhaps a little extra intuition to any sign's basic nature.

So, when we say blue dragon, we can assume we're talking about the water dragon. Since Chinese astrology operates on a 60-year cycle that consists of 12 signs pairing up with each of the five elements on a rotating basis, the most recent water dragons were born in between January 27, 1952 and February 13, 1953. The next year of the water dragon will be 2012.

Water Dragon Personality

While still basically flamboyant by nature, water tends to intensify the dragon's power to eloquently express his own viewpoints, which are the right ones by his estimation, even as it calms his exuberance. Water also leads this dragon to be more sensitive to opposing viewpoints, and slightly more diplomatic than he might be otherwise.

The water dragon still values his opinions above all others, but he's more likely to give other viewpoints a fair airing and believe himself quite democratic for doing so. This doesn't mean he'll be more likely to concede an argument or capitulate to someone else's opinions, but he will at least listen and perhaps find some common ground. Water dragons are also a bit more patient.

Career Options

Water dragons have the potential to succeed in a wide variety of careers, however one key element must be kept in mind; no matter what these dragons undertake, they prefer to be in charge. This stems from their keen dislike of conformity and a need to be in control of their own destiny.

Career choices might include:

  • Politician
  • Police officer
  • Judge
  • Manager
  • Artist
  • Actor
