Many horoscope junkies would love to have their astrological signs explained. If you are one of them, read on!

The Astrological Signs Explained

When having the astrological signs explained, one should take a look at the glyphs and symbols associated with each sign. Doing so can shed a lot of light on the meaning of each sign.

Aries

  • Symbol: The symbol for Aries is the ram, a male sheep; an animal that loves to climb the highest peaks in the land. Sound familiar, Aries? This symbol, along with its sharp horns, perfectly encapsulates the Aries personality; relishing a challenge.
  • Glyph: The Aries glyph symbolizes Mars with a circle and an arrow, an arrow that points optimistically upwards.

Taurus

  • Symbol: The symbol for Taurus is well known; the stubborn, strong bull, horns ready to impale if need be.
  • Glyph: The astrological glyph of Venus, Taurus’ ruler, amazingly enough looks like a little hand mirror; a circle that rests over a cross. The cross here is said to represent matter and the circle over it the soul. In this image, we see that the soul has the power to transform matter into spiritual beauty.

Gemini

  • Symbol: Gemini’s symbol, appropriately enough, is the twins. This pair accurately represents the duplicity of Gemini’s nature. The second symbol for Gemini is the Roman numeral II to symbolize the sign’s twin identities.

Note that in Gemini, there is no masculine or feminine energy; the sign is essentially neutral. Gemini, therefore, is regarded as androgynous and as such has the capacity for divine wholeness.

  • Glyph: The symbol of Mercury is a circle of spirit and the crescent of the soul. In Gemini, the mind links the spirit, soul and matter (body) together.

Cancer

  • Symbol: With its hard outer shell, soft underbelly and sideways motion, the crab is the symbol for Cancer.
  • Glyph: Cancer’s glyph looks a little like the symbol for infinity and a little like yin and yang intertwined. Looking closely at the symbol, it actually appears to be two full moons attached to a crescent moon. Each “moon” is attached to the other, in an opposite, interlocking pattern.

Leo

  • Symbol: The king of the jungle himself, the masculine lion is the only symbol that will do for this proud sign.
  • Glyph: The glyph for Leo represents the life giving force of the sun; a circle with a dot in the middle.

Virgo

  • Symbol: Virgo’s symbol is the virgin. Not only does this symbol represent purity and sacrifice, but interestingly enough, can also represent motherhood.
  • Glyph: The glyph of Virgo is very similar to Scorpio’s, but Virgo’s symbol turns inwards. This denotes reflection and the inward development of the self.

Libra

  • Symbol: Libra is found at the time of year when daytime and nighttime hours are perfectly equal, so it makes sense that the scales are Libra’s symbol.
  • Glyph: Venus is represented by a circle over a cross. The cross represents matter and the circle represents the soul.

Scorpio

  • Symbol: The symbol for Scorpio is similar to Virgo, the difference being that the “slash” points outward, not inward. Some astrologers believe that this represents the scorpion tail ready to strike.
  • Glyph: The glyph of Scorpio is a cross with an upturned crescent above and a circle floating in the “cup” of the crescent. This glyph suggests that soul and sprit triumph over matter and thereby relates the Scorpio theme of transformation.

Sagittarius

  • Symbol: The symbol for Sagittarius is half man, half horse. This is thought to represent man’s ability to “rise” over his animal instincts while at the same time channeling the horse’s superhuman power and strength.
  • Glyph: The glyph of Sagittarius reveals the symbolism of Jupiter (expansion) and Saturn (restriction). The half-circle (the crescent) rises above the cross. This means that even though the mind and matter are linked, the mind is able to rise above the material world (Saturn).

Capricorn

  • Symbol: Capricorn’s symbol is the goat, a solitary figure that can survive and thrive even if the soil is very poor.
  • Glyph: For Saturn (Capricorn’s ruler), the glyph is a cross over a crescent, and for Capricorn this means that matter and reality dominate over spirit.

Aquarius

  • Symbol: Aquarius’s symbol is usually a man (although, in ancient texts it was a woman) holding two life-giving jugs full of water that are then poured down to earth for the benefit of all.
  • Glyph: Two wavy lines that look like waves of water, but are actually waves of electricity are the glyph for Aquarius. This shows Aquarius’ flashes of brilliance and insights.

Pisces

  • Symbol: The well-known fish tied tighter, but swimming in opposite directions is the symbol for Pisces.
  • Glyph: The glyph for Pisces is a fascinating one, and many think that it is an Egyptian hieroglyph meaning psychic regeneration. The two crescents represent the two hemispheres of the brain with the line or cord (linking the two) representing the “third eye”.

To Sum up

Having the astrological signs explained does not have to be complicated. To learn more about oneself, simply think about the symbol of the sign and find all the associations with that symbol (strengths and weaknesses). This relates the character of the individual. From there, move on to the glyph and determine the role “matter” plays when juxtaposed to “spirit” and this will relate the sign’s “values”.
