Astrological Sign Compatibility
From LoveToKnow Horoscopes
Each zodiac sign has its own astrological sign compatibility with other members of the zodiac. Exploring this compatibility allows one to better understand with whom they get along with best.
Astrological Sign Compatibility Made Easy
Before delving into the astrological sign compatibility of the zodiac, it helps to have a good understanding of the element, quality and keywords associated with each sign. Knowing these factors provides a clearer understanding of the sign and provides a basis for understanding why they get along with certain signs, but have difficulty with others.
| Sign | Quality | Energy | Keyword |
| Aries | Cardinal | Masculine | Inspirational |
| Libra | Cardinal | Masculine | Mental |
| Capricorn | Cardinal | Feminine | Material |
| Cancer | Cardinal | Feminine | Sensitive |
| Leo | Fixed | Masculine | Organized |
| Aquarius | Fixed | Masculine | Organized |
| Taurus | Fixed | Feminine | Material |
| Scorpio | Fixed | Feminine | Sensitive |
| Sagittarius | Mutable | Masculine | Inspirational |
| Gemini | Mutable | Masculine | Communicative |
| Virgo | Mutable | Feminine | Communicative |
| Pisceas | Mutable | Feminine | Communicative |
Of note in zodiac sign compatibility is the quality associated with the sign:
- Cardinal signs are "leaders".
- Fixed signs are "organizers".
- Mutable signs are "communicators".
Signs, Qualities and Elements
Now it's time to compare each sign with the neighbors in its element.
Fire Signs
- Aries: Cardinal/Fire
- Leo: Fixed/Fire
- Sagittarius: Mutable/Fire
Air Signs
- Libra: Cardinal/Air
- Aquarius: Fixed/Air
- Gemini: Mutable/Air
Earth Signs
- Capricorn: Cardinal/Earth
- Taurus: Fixed/Earth
- Virgo: Mutable/Earth
Water Signs
- Cancer: Cardinal/Water
- Scorpio: Fixed/Water
- Pisces: Mutable Water
From here, a better understanding of the signs is possible, and the differences between the signs, even signs of the same element, are clear.
For example, even though Aries and Leo are both fire signs, one is Cardinal/Fire (Aries) and the other is Fixed/Fire (Leo). Therefore Aries "leads"” in their inspirational talk/activities, etc, while Leo "organizes"” their fiery energy into "fixed" structures. This pattern can be seen throughout the signs.
Another example could be the fixed or structured energy of Aquarius compared to the free floating, changeable energy of Gemini. They get along, but go about doing things in different ways.
The key thing to remember about zodiac sign compatibility is the element and quality of the sign. This factor determines how each sign “does” things or thinks, after which, one can compare and contrast how two signs differ and how they are similar.

Other Factors in Compatibility
The info above, of course, is just a brief snapshot into the world of astrological sign compatibility, and in reality it should be treated as such. Other factors go into the soup of compatibility, and while the elements of the signs are just one ingredient, others worth consideration include:
- Rising Signs: Astrological rising signs are the way that the world "perceives" a particular sign. Compatibility in this area can be particularly helpful in smoothing over differences.
- Moon Aspects: Moon signs give clues to the emotional compatibility between signs.
- Venus Aspects: These show a couples’ likes and dislikes.
- Mars Aspects: Mars aspects indicate the vigor and enthusiasm two separate signs bring into the relationship and to life in general.
- Saturn Aspects: These aspects indicate karma, specifically the nature of the karma at play between two individuals.
- Jupiter Aspects: Jupiter aspects show the sense of expansiveness within a relationship and the level of honesty between the pair.
- Neptune Aspects: Neptune aspects indicate creativity, fantasy, and if ill aspected, dishonesty.
- Uranus Aspects: These aspects show different levels of “big changes”. For example, think of major life events like switching careers, divorce, etc.
- Pluto Aspects: Aspects involving Pluto indicate changes made at the “cellular” level of the relationship. This change is always slow, but once it’s complete, there’s no turning back. Aspects to this planet can also give off a "soul mate"” feeling.
